So you want to be your own boss?

So you want to be your own boss?

You want to be your own boss?  Be it.

What is a boss?  A boss is defined as a person who employs, a person that makes decisions, exercises authority, dominates, etc.  A chief, master of or over…

If I don’t have employers am I still a boss?  Ab-so-fuckin-lootly!  It’s the little decisions that we make everyday that brings us one step closer to our goal.  Choosing to wake up early.  Exercising.  Healthy body, healthy mind.  Meditating.  Reading a book instead of playing subway surfer.

I’m an Aquarius.  Extremely analytical and always thinking.  I love writing.  It helps me to sort and organize all what’s going on in my mind.  It keeps me to stay on track and in the right direction.  With so much on my mind, so many ideas and thoughts running through my head, writing is an amazing outlet for me.  Almost a necessity.  It makes me focus and hone in on what’s important.

I delved into the world of blogging to create my own business, be my own boss, to do just that, focus on what’s important to me.

What I learned was so much more.

The biggest, most difficult decision you made is already done.  The horrifying decision to step into the entrepreneurial world, to become your own boss is huge.  You are the only thing that will hold you back from your dreams becoming your reality.  Conquer those to do tasks and lists.  Have fun and don’t forget to be yourself.

Be true to who you are, who you really are.

As a first time blogger, newborneur, (yeah I just made that up, that’s what I do…newborn + entrepreneur) staying up late, waking up early, reading entrepreneurial books, tons of posts on Pinterest, subscribing to email lists, listening to podcasts, reading tons of blogs come with the territory of “the blogosphere”

It can be extremely overwhelming.  Everyone has a different style, that is a given.  Reading one bloggers “Sure fire way to write an attention grabbing post” and another one spilling the “SEO tips to capture readers attention“.  It’s the same message, titled and packaged differently, but something in what they said or did resonated with you and you clicked, read, saved and subscribed.

We’re not reinventing the wheel here people, what you are doing is introducing yourself to the world, who you are and your uniqueness!

If you are doing what everyone else is doing, what sets you apart from all the rest?  Do you want to blend in?  How will anyone notice what you’ve written if there are 30-50 other blog posts saying the exact same thing, just different graphics, switching up key words and SEO friendly tags?

Stop following the crowd and boss up!

Bosses don’t follow.  We lead.

You can read what other bloggers have done, what they continue to do, but at the end of the day, you need to be true to you.  Stop following the crowd.  If you think what you’re blogging about isn’t popular, or the market is saturated in that specific topic, guess what so did the other million.  They still went forward and did it.

Have the confidence to go with what you love to do, the skills you already possess, or maybe you just learned something that changed your life and want to teach others to change their life.  Do what you enjoy.  If you love juicing, blog about it!  Share the shit out of your juicing techniques.  If you don’t know how to upload a video to your blog, google it!  You can find every and anything online, and for free!

One of my favorite shows on HBO, Insecure starring Issa Rae, created her own series on YOUTUBE!

There is no excuse.

There are people on youtube who make a shit load of money “unboxing toys”!  People watch them unbox aka ‘open’ a child’s toy, assemble it and play with it!

Who would have thought that was entertaining!?  Apparently millions of people!  There is something for everyone.

There is only one you.  Your voice is unique.  You made the decision to be a boss, you obviously have the confidence and the drive, so be it.

As you evolve, so will your blog

I started my blog to teach others how to do just that…start a blog.  My intention was to share my career history which was riddled with dead end jobs and me always seeking satisfaction in a title or trying to find the right company.  In the process, I became a better version of me, applying what I read in different entrepreneurial materials to my life.  Changing from the inside out and realizing that starting a blog was merely scratching the surface.  In learning how to change my mindset, create better habits and how to take back my power, I also found what it is I was meant to do.

In the pursuit of one thing we may find more than anticipated!  We must change in order to evolve.  If you started out wanting to blog about your love of juicing and discovered through the process that you love growing your own vegetables and love talking about gardening, teaching people how to grow their own produce, then go young grasshopper, go!  Grow!

That is part of the creative process, the makings of a boss, an entrepreneur.  You’re creating more than one stream of revenue dude!  You fuckin rock!  Any idea, any thought that pops into your head, do it!  That’s God, that’s the universe showing you your path!  Pay attention and listen!  If it doesn’t work the first time, or if you’re having difficulty, put it to the side and come back to it.  Don’t be afraid to fail.  We grow from our mistakes.  We fail to succeed.  The important thing is to try!

Understand that owning your own business, being your own boss isn’t a job, it’s a way of life.  It is work.  It’s making the decision when the alarm goes off at 5 AM, instead of staying in bed you get your ass up and be that boss.  It will be difficult, but not impossible.

What are some of the things you’ve learned since you decided to be your own boss?
